MSSWP: Sentul Zone (Primary Schools)

Once again, SJK(C) Kepong 2 has conquered the Sentul Zone by making a clean sweep of 4 Golds from the 4 Individual Categories. Also, they won 3 more Silver and a Bronze from the Individual Categories. So, this gives them a total of 4G-3S-1B from Individuals.

On top of that the Boys from the School has emerged as Champion Team with a ruthless 19 points from 20 games. This make the "Big Three" schools in KL {i.e. SJK(C) Lee Rubber and SK (L) Methodist} goes into the final with an identical 19 points from their respective zone. It is a record of sort in MSSWP history. As for the Girls team, they bring back a Bronze for the school.

The finale of medal distribution >> SJK(C) Kepong 2 won 5 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze Medals from 6 categories contested. They had outperformed their own record of 5 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze achieved in last year edition. Could this achievement also a record breaking feat in MSSWP at Sentul zone level? Will try to find out from MSSWP Officials.

Well done, SJK(C) Kepong 2!!!

For your info, SJK(C) Lee Rubber is the current record holder for MSSWP with 6 Gold - 1 Silver - 0 Bronze. They achieved this spectacular result in this year MSSWP Keramat Zone.

Lastly, a big thank you to the Organisers aka Teachers (Cikgu Azwan and the team) for uploading the result very fast. I always like their efficiency.

Source from CAS website,

After 5 hours of Council Meeting on last Tuesday, CAS is pleased to announce that we will get active again in the chess scene despite lacking in manpower and funding for all activities that will be organised from this year onwards.

We hope the chess community can lend a big support in our events. All dates are confirmed. The infosheet for the 39th Selangor Open can be obtained from here.

Pick this info from CAS website,
Updated 24th March 2012: The Selangor Juniors for U12 and U16 originally on 17th June will be rescheduled to another suitable date since there is another tournament for Juniors that will take place in KL. The event was advertised to public much earlier, however, CAS Council is unaware of that development. CAS always committed in honouring the policy of "No clash on tournament dates based on whoever announce event first".

NAG - Money Making Scheme .... Fuyoh, I like it !!!!!! (Part 2)

A person can response to a fictional article and take it as though the story in the article is REAL story. How IRONY can it be?

The same person can start making accusation about the writer based on a fictional article written by the writer. He does not know anything about the writer but pretend as though he knew everything based on reading a fictional article. How IRONY can it be?

The same person starts spinning a story using his own assumption and try to relate to how Association is run by others after reading based on a fictional article. How IRONY can it be?

I wonder does this guy did a background check on things before writing a response to a FICTIONAL story. Btw, no one will actually response to a fictional story, right? ALSO, THERE IS NO INDICATION THAT THE SECRETARY IN THE FICTIONAL STORY IS THE WRITER OF THIS BLOG SITE WHICH BELONGS TO LIM TSE PIN. THIS GUY JUST ASSUME AND PERFORM CHARACTER ASSASINATION ON LIM TSE PIN. WHY IS HE PERFORMING CHARACTER ASSASINATION ON A PERSON HE HARDLY KNOW?

Anyway just to satisfy this guy who cant even spelled the writer name correctly. I would like to continue the FICTIONAL story as follows: (Do not make assumption on face value based on what to read, see, or hear from one source. Find out hard facts and then analyse it; not making assumptions/justfication to suit a propaganda. Sidenote, please have a little sense of humor when reading a fictional story. Cheers.)

The conversation did not end there as seen in the fictional story. Here is the whole conversation:

The secretary said "The key issue is the RM10/head count charged to anybody who takeover to run the event.".

The Offerer quickly suggested that the rate can be discussed aka lower rate. Then, the secretary said "It will not be fair to other Association who had paid the fee to run the event previously. I will not want my Association to be seen by others that favourism at work aka corruption in someone dictionary. If my association to take up the offer, I will insist my Association must pay the same rate as Penang".

Then, the secretary made a viable suggestion to the Offerer i.e. MCF should run the event again just like last year in Tronoh and pay whatever that is necessary to the items mentioned earlier incl. Manpower. It should breakeven with 450 pax since MCF saves on equipment.

The Offerer said "I would like someone to do it so it can take the work load from me. Also, you know last year experience is something that I would like others to experience. Maybe u can do it in your private capacity".

Then, secretary replied "Talking about work load and responsibility, then I can tell you that my Council incl. myself would not do it as we feel it is MCF duty to organise NAG, not private enterprise or any lower level chess association. On personal capacity, i would not UNDERTAKE this project because i'm a man of principle". The conversation ended there.

Many weeks later, the secretary was surprised to receive a call from another Organiser asking him to become the Chief Arbiter of NAG aka CA. The secretary declined the invitation by citing 2 reasons i.e. 1) He has many students competing, so he cannot be the CA; 2) the advance payment he made in his own capacity on behalf of MCF relate to past NAG and other matters were yet to reimburse back to him. In addition, he recommended Najib as CA. The Organiser accepted his recommendation.

The question remains "How this Organiser going to pay MCF RM10/head count" that work out to be RM4,310 Plus another RM 862 as rating fee = RM 5,172 remain to be seen.

The End of a FICTIONAL story.

P/S: Now, this article is formatted in such a way for convenient reading as opposed to the original posting made from mobile phone. For those who wish to read the 1st part of this FICTIONAL story, click here. Happy reading, remember it is a FICTIONAL story afterall.

Taking a Break .......

As I finished my last article, it's 3am. What a long day - 10 hrs of age group, followed by 5 hours of CAS meeting, then 2 hours of blogging. Its time to catch some sleep now. Will continue with the Girls categories sypnosis over the weekend.

NAG 2012: Under-18 Boys Final Result

In this category, the fight was so intense that many different possibility could have happened if Wong Jian Wen could only manage to draw. Example: Eng Chiam and Nabil win, then 3-way playoff; Eng Chiam and Yit San win, then Eng Chiam will be Champion under P/E table score; Eng Chiam wins but Board 2 draws, then Eng Chiam wins on P/E against Jian Wen; Eng Chiam draws, then Jian Wen wins. So, which version actually took place? The answer was the fourth one. So, Wong Jian Wen is the new U18 Champion.

The complete results as follows:

NAG 2012: Under-16 Boys Final Result

As expected, Roshan Singh Ajeet Singh is the new Under-16 Champion. According to reliable source came from the Arbiters, his opponent three-time National Age Group Champion Tan Wei Hao was leading in material so there might be a 3-way playoff possibility. However, the latter had miscalculated a position and handed the game to Roshan.

Meanwhile, 2nd seed Tan Jun Feng had a very poor outing in this event where he only obtained 5 points from 8 games. Fikri Saleh (seeded 5th), Suniil Kalivanan (seeded 6th) and Low Jun Keat (seeded 7th) too had a bad outing.

The full results as below:

NAG 2012: Under-14 Boys Final Result

William Lee was expected to lift this title by winning his last round, however he only managed a draw. This open up the possibility of a playoff if Cheong Jie Yao, a very much improved player in term of fundamental understanding after attending a 2 full day School Holiday CTEP Camp conducted by Coach L mid last year, can defeat Noor Azam who is higher rank than him. It did happen. A playoff of 2 games was arranged where William got 1.5 points from 2 games, so William Lee is the new U14 Champion.

NAG 2012: Under-12 Boys Final Result

This category has produced a spectacular end result. Before the start of the final round, many parents, players and experienced arbiters too were expecting Teh De Juan to cruise away the title easily since he had 1 point advantage with 7 points from 7 games into the last round and paired against an opponent who is seeded only 6th and 117 rating points lower than him. Actually, I knew this category was far from over.

Why? Teh and his teammate from Penang were sitting on Table 1 and 2 respectively against Coach L students. If both Coach L students can win their respective game, it will forced a 3-way playoff (at the very least). As the clock ticks away, all players in this category had finished their games except these 2 boards. At that moment, position was equal on Board 1, while Emir was leading a pawn on Board 2. The playoff seem to be a reality after all. Alas, he miscalculated and had to agree with a draw which effectively ends his Championship hope. Moment later, news came that Tan Yong Zhao was leading a pawn in an opposite colour Bishop which Teh didn't know how to defend it. The rest was history.

This may be a lucky venue for Tan as he was up at the stage again to receive the Challenge Trophy for the second time after 4 years lapse.

Meanwhile, top seed and hot favourite Ng Jen Sheng did not really recover from his Round 1 lost to Ngew Wai Kit, a student of Coach L, where he finishes at 11th place with 6 points after conceeding two draws in the process.

For the record, Coach L students won this Category Seven times in the last Nine years.

NAG 2012: Under-10 Boys Final Result

A big upset was created in this category. As many were expecting top seed, Wong Yinn Long, to win this event with ease. He lost unexpectedly in Round 7 to his teammate, Tan Jun Ying. With this lost, he loses his title too if both players end on same points. That is exactly what happen, so Tan Jun Ying is the U-10 Champion.

The full results as follows:

NAG 2012: Under-08 Boys Final Result

Both Lye Lik Zang and Ng Shi Yang have stamped their mark on Under-08 field by finishing 1-2 and far ahead the rest of the field. On the other end, it was a disappointing outing for Chew Zhi Qi who finished at 9th, despite finishing 2nd behind Lye in Nat. Scholastic U-7 late last year. Another high rank player, Dinessh, had failed to finish in top 10.

NAG 2012: NAG 2012: Who Leads After 5 Rounds in Boys Categories

In U-8 Boys, Lye Lik Zhang, pre-tournament hot favourite, has tightened his grip on the Championship Title by clearing Ng Shi Yang and giant killer Looi Ka Loc in Round 4 and 5 respectively. He has open up a 1 point lead over the rest of the field with 3 games to play.

In U-10 Boys, Wong Yinn Long, pre-tournament hot favourite, too has tightened his grip on the Championship Title by clearing Jagathees and Ryan Chan in Round 4 and 5 respectively. He has open up a half point lead, however, the race to the Championship is far from over with 3 more rounds to go.

In U-12 Boys, Teh De Juan has became the event new hot favourite boy to win this category after the lost of top seed Ng Jen Sheng in Day 1 of competition. He won both his game so far today to open up a half point lead. Again, the race to the Championship is far from over with 3 more rounds to go. He is pitting against MSSWP Bangsar Zone U12 Champion, Sean Ooi, in Round 6.

In U-14 Boys, Shreyes Subramaniam, pre-tournament hot favourite, was held to a draw in Round 5 by Cheong Jie Yao (seeded 11th) to share the lead with 2nd ranked William Lee. Both players are competing against each other in Round 6. Ooi Yen Hoe who created a spectacular upset win against Tin Jun Hao of Day 1 could not find the same form today where he lost both his games played so far today. What a pity? Whereas, Tin put aside his failure last night by winning 2 games convincingly to get himself back into the title race.

In U-16 Boys, Roshan Singh, pre-tournament hot favourite, was held to a draw in Round 5 by Liew Ken Yew (seeded 4th)to share lead with 9th ranked Albert Ang. Both players are competing against each other in Round 6. While, Tan Jun Feng (seeded 2nd) has suffered an unexpected lost to Suniil.

In U-18 Boys, Wong Jian Wen is in terrific form after scoring 2 out of 2 games against Fong Yit San and Defending Champion Muhd Nabil in Rd 4 and 5 respectively. He has a 1 point lead over the rest of the field. Can he wrap up the title after Round 6 match against Yeap Eng Chiam, the last person with same level of chess skills? Elsewhere, giant killer Jonathan Augustine has suffered a double KO today at the hand of Muhd Nabil and Fong. It's such a pity after disposing Eng Chiam and Jun Jian in Day 1.

NAG 2012: NAG 2012: Who Leads After 5 Rounds in Girls Categories

In U-8 Girls, Goh Jie Yi, defending champion, has open up at least 1 point lead over her nearest rival, Zainoor Ikmal Munirah and Nur Faiqah, whom she had met. Looks like from Round 6 onwards she is going to add another 3 more points to secure maximum 8 points, just like what she did last year.

In U-10 Girls, Chua Jia-Tien created the biggest upset in this group by defeating top seed Zainoor Ikmal Maisarah. However, she was held to a draw in the following round by Nurul Farhana. With the result, these two girls have 4.5 points followed by Zainoor and Khaw Ker Shean with 4 points. Who is going to champ? It's still to early to tell.

In U-12 Girls, Nithyalaksmi, pre-tournament hot favourite, has tightened her grip on the Championship Title by clearing Mok Shu Zing and Teh De Zen. She has open up a 1 point lead over the field and could well be on her way towards winning the Championship.

In U-14 Girls, WFM Nur Najiha has done herself a great favour by defeating
Defending Champion NWM Tan Li Ting in Round 5 to lead the field by half point. Will she wins the title? It all depends on her encounter against Camilia Johari (seeded 3rd) in Round 6.

NAG 2012: Schedule

12th March 2012
Round 4 starts at 9:00AM;
Round 5 starts at 12:30PM;
Round 6 starts at 3:30PM;

13th March 2012
Round 7 starts at 9:00AM;
Round 8 starts at 12:30PM;
Closing Ceremony at 4:30PM.

For those who would like to catch the on-going actions, the best time to visit for today will be between 12:30 and 1:30PM, or 3:30 to 4:30PM. In some categories, high ranking players are falling like a pinball. This action will be intensified as they march to the fininishing line tomorrow.

Rest Day: Under-18 Girls

Today will be a rest day for this category. The girls in this category will resume their battle tomorrow morning.

Sarika has completed 2 games against two strongest players in the category where she won one and drew one. Objectively, she should claim the title tomorrow when she is paired against two other much lower rating players.

Of course, her two nearest rivals would like to see one of them can pull of a spectacular upset against Sarika. Nevertheless, the actual battle is to see who can win enough games, say 1.5 points, to secure a top 4 placing as there is only 5 players in this category.

NAG 2012: Under-16 Boys Round 4 pairing

Due to unforseen circumstances (of no fault of mine), I re-published the correct version of Round 4. Players whose correspondence table number in bold (from the image below), please take note:-

In U-8 Girls, Goh Jie Yi, defending champion, is inching closer to defend her title after winning her match angainst 2nd seed Nur Faiqah. This leaves Zainoor Ikmal Munirah as the only person to stands in her way for winning a back-to-back title.

In U-10 Girls, Lum Ting Fang, 2nd seed, again has failed to collect another point where she lost to Chua Jia-Tien. Zainoor Ikmal continues her grip towards the title with 3 wins in a row.

In U-12 Girls, the top two rated players were given some strong resistent before able to wrap up their game. While, Faqihah was less fortunatewhere she lost to Shu Zing.

NAG - Money making scheme .... fuyoh, I like it !!!!!!

A fictional story that bears no resemblance to reality.

Once upon a time, someone from MCF has offered one Chess Association locates in Klang Valley to do the infamous "money making scheme" event called National Age-Group. He contacted the secretary of the association and try to sell how nice and priviledge it will be if the Chess Association takes the offer.

The secretary was so excited that the Association can finally make good money out of this "money making scheme" event that offers no prize money at all. Looks good if 200pax turn up, a clean RM 8,000 into pocket, i mean bank account. What if 400pax, wow a RM 16,000 into pocket. Fuyoh!!!!!!!! The Secretary then ask this offerer what's the catch since it's free money.

Well, the Offerer said "All you need is to select 3 days from the calendar and rent an air-cond hall that can fits 500 pax (fyi, 468pax was the record for NAG), tables, chairs, medals, chess set, chess clocks, scoresheets, stationeries, cartridges, well it must includes manpower as well, and ..... ".

The Secretary interupted the conversation by saying "Air-cond Hall that can fit 500 pax for 3 days = RM 5,000 or more, Tables and Chairs for 500 pax = RM 2,500, 90 pcs of metal medals = RM 1,000, Equipments = RM 4,000, Scoresheet = RM 1,000, Stationeries/Cartridges RM 300, MCF Rating Fee = RM 1,000, ahhh my stomach could not take it anymore as these add-up to RM 14,800".

Then, the Secretary asked the Offerer whether MCF is going to provide 20 to 30 helpers aka Arbiters who can offer themselves (aka volunteer) for 4 days, you know the place need to be setup too. He was shocked to hear "No charges, are you kidding me?" from the Offerer. The Offerer said "I recommend you give them RM50 a day (12hrs of work daily) for transportation, breakfast, lunch etc. So, it works out to be RM 200/person i.e. RM 6000 for 30 volunteers". Also, remember the sanctioned fee of National event @ RM 10/head count.

The Secretary run through the math: The Association will gets RM 20,000 for 500 pax; then pay RM 14,800 for non-manpower related costing plus RM 6,000 (allowances) for 30 volunteers. This gives the Association err ...... What if only 400 pax turn-up? Thank you so much for "money making scheme" event. The Secretary politely declined the offer from the Offerer.

Added notes: On 16th March, a week after this FICTIONAL Story was put up. It surprised me that someone actually took this article for real. When this article was posted on 9th March, the first paragraph in this article did mention the story is FICTIONAL. It was written with some sense of humors to capture readers attention within the chess community and it adds some spice to the upcoming NAG 2012.

For those who want to read Part 2 of this FICTIONAL story, click here. I hope no one will take this FICTIONAL story as REAL again. Cheers!!

MSSWP Organiser will take a break next week as all primary schools in KL will be having their semester exam followed by 1 week of school holiday. So, the next zone will only compete after the school resumes from the 1 week holiday break.

Can SJK(C) Kepong 2 continues their dominance for both boys and girls categories? Last year, this school swept away with 5 Gold medals out of 6 categories contested. Will check it out in 3 weeks time.
