MCF Chess Rating: July 2014 Official Release

In July 2014 release, there are 18,838 players. An increased from 17,298 chess players in Apr 2014. Of which more than 17,500 Malaysians in our chess rating database. A unique MCF Chess Rating ID contains 9-Alphanumeric ID was introduced in the October 2013 edition. Please refer to here for more info.

 

Please remember your MCF Chess Rating ID to facilitate registration process of National-rated Events and insist on the Event Organisers to key-in your MCF Chess Rating ID into IDNo column of the Swiss Manager file to avoid any rating discrepancies.

MCF Chess Rating: July 2014 [Pre-release]

The past 3 months were very busy with chess activities. A total of 25 events were rated nationally. There were 2,758 unique players among 3,774 entries. Other events that did not meet the submission deadline on 30th June 2014 shall be included in October 2014 release.

CTEP (New Intake - 16th AUG 2014)

Would you like to see your children improve on calculation ability, develop logical thinking, inspire self-motivation, able to focus for a longer period in doing things, or perhaps represent our country in Chess? If your answer is Yes, then there is a good news that I would like to announce. 

There is a new intake for children who have either zero knowledge or very basic elementary knowledge in chess. The chess class will be held on every Saturday from 3.30pm to  4.30pm. Venue: Jalan Setia Prima P U13/P, Setia Alam, 40170 Shah Alam.

9th MBSSKL Chess Open Tournament: Final Result

The event is concluded successfully at 4.25pm. Tournament top ranked player in 4 categories has emerged as Champion i.e. 10 y.o. Lik Zang in U-14 Boys, Nithyalakshmi Sivanesan (a National Women Squad 2014/ 2015 player) in U-14 Girls, Dilwen Ding in U-17 Boys, and Rosamund Koo in U-17 Girls.

MBSSKL Students done well in the U-14 category with two students namely Wong Zhu Hock and Jaron Tan have played above their rating playing strength to finish bridesmaids to Lye.  While, MBSSKL Low Chee Pang and Darrel Yap are among the 6 prize winners in U-17 Boys.

As for U-23 Boys, once again MBSSKL hopeful Tan Wei Hao has to settle for the second position after the 4th round lost to eventual Champion Liew Ken Yew. Nevertheless, MBSSKL Angeline Sim, a sixth former (MBSSKL is a Boys school except for Form Six intake), has salvaged back some pride for MBSSKL by winning the U-23 Girls Category in a 3 way-tie for 1st place after P/E count but have the best solkoff (2nd tie-break) among the 3 girls which include the top ranked Elizabeth Hoon.

This event is incident-free despite being the first event in Malaysia under the revised Laws of Chess. Kudos to all Deputy Chief Arbiters, Section Arbiters, Result Arbiters, School teachers, Parents, Coaches and last but not least the Players to make this event a success!

9th MBSSKL Chess Open Tournament: Midway

At the point of writing, 3 rounds were conducted successfully before the lunch break. Round 4 shall resumes from 1.30pm with many exciting encounters on the card.

In U14 Boys, Lye Lik Zang of KL (Black) is facing Praghashkumar of Selangor. While, Emir Rusyaidi of Selangor (White) is squaring off against MBSSKL hopeful Jaron Tan Xe Yung. Both Selangorians Bryan Yap and Cheah Eason is competing together, while another MBSSKL hopeful Wong Zhu Hock is on Board 4.

In U17 Boys, MBSSKL Darrel Yap is up against top seed Dilwen Ding of KL, while another MBSSKL student Low Chee Pang is paired against Subramanian Sivanesan of Negeri Sembilan.

In U23 Boys, MBSSKL Chess Club President Tan Wei Hao who moves up to play in U23 is up against the only contender Liew Ken Yew.of KL in this category. 

In U14 Girls, National Women Squad player Nithyalakshmi Sivanesan of Negeri Sembilan is pitted against third rank Melanie Koo of KL. While Ellie Emira of Selangor is squaring off against Sim Jia Ru of Penang.

In U17 Girls, the most improved Female player in Malaysia for Q2 2014, Rosamund Koo, is scheduled to play 2nd seeded Ho Chen Ee. Both players are from KL.

In U23 Girls, both pre-tournament favourites had fallen in the hands of unrated players. Both unrated Manda Wong Yun Shan and Angeline Sim Yik Hwa is facing each other in round 4.

9th MBSSKL Chess Open Tournament

172 players have registered for this 1-day national rated event @ MBSSKL. There are 6 categories to be contested namely Under-14 Boys and Girls, Under-17 Boys and Girls and Under-23 Boys and Girls.

As usual, the Under-14 attracts the largest crowd with a combined of 106 players. While, the Under-23 categories have 25 players only. This is the first national-rated event in Malaysia to be implementing the Revised Laws of Chess. Among the changes from 1st July 2014 is a player shall lose the game in the 1st occurrence of an Illegal move.
