MSSMKL Primary (Sentul Zone) 2013 Team Result

SJK(C) Kepong 2 begins a new chapter in chess (after the graduation of the last bastion like Tan Yong Zhao, Chua Yee Ler and Chew Zhi Jing to Secondary school) by securing both the Boys and Girls Team Championship in the just concluded team event today.

Despite there was some difficulties in the Boys category, the Team manages to retain the title after a having a slight superior BH tiebreak. They were tied on match point (9pts) and first tiebreak count game points (16pts) with SJK(C) Lai Chee. While, SK Taman Bukit Maluri has emerged as the Bronze medalist.

As for the Girls, the Team (exact team formation as per last year) has made much progress this year by winning against SK(P) Convent Sentul 1 (Defending Champion) in the Rd 4 to emerge as a clear-cut Champion. The best performer in this event goes to newcomer SJK(C) Kepong 3. This team just assemble 5 months ago (that's right) under parents' initiative. The parents have roped in Coach Lim to prepare their children for the Championship with a target of finishing top 6 in this zone. And now to a surprise of many schools, Kepong 3 for the first time in the team event has secured a good position (actual result to be verified later) including a 2-2 draw against Kepong 2 in Round 3

(updated @ 5pm) and followed by 3-1 thumping over Convent Sentul 1 in the last round (Rd 5). With these results, Kepong 3 has emerged as first runner-up in this event.

It's like a fairy-tale finishing for a newcomer in the scene. Will they become the next Kepong school to emerge as a chess powerhouse in future!?

24th Selangor Juniors Open on 24th Feb 2013: Update#1

CAS is organizing the Selangor Juniors for Under-10 and Under-14 category on 24th Feb @ DAT Chess Connections, 4th floor, Wilayah Complex, KL.

Each category has 15 prizes with the Champion receiving RM 200, 1st Runner-Up receiving RM 150, 2nd Runner-Up gets RM 100, while 3rd and 4th Runner-Up gets RM 50. All top 15 finishers will be receiving a Medal and Certificate of Achievement.

24th Selangor Juniors Open on 24th Feb and 3rd March 2013

With reference to our article dated 4th May 2012 on re-instatement of Selangor Juniors Open, CAS will starts of the year with the Juniors event in February 2013 for the benefits of juniors to prepare themselves for MSSS / MSSWP, MSSM and National Age-Group.

The event will see 5 categories  i.e. Under-10 and Under-14 to be played on 24th February, while Under-08, Under-12 and Under-16 on 3rd March. The venue for the event is at Arthur Tan Chess Centre, 4th Floor, Wilayah Complex, KL.

There will be 15 prizes to be won by players in EACH CATEGORY.

1st The Summit Juniors Open Results

This event was conducted successfully yesterday where 163 had participated in the event.

In the Under-10 category, the pre-tournament favourites were Ahmad Aiman Sahadi from Kelantan with a National Rating of 1559 points, followed by Chew Zhi Xuan (NR 1400), Cheah Kah Hoe (NR 1372), Fahim Al-faqeh Saleh (NR 1370) and Wong Zhi Yue (NR 1365).

All except Cheah had no problem winning all their respective encounters for the first 4 rounds. In Round 5, Fahim had created an upset by winning against Ahmad, while Chew won against Wong to set up top-of-the table clash between 2^nd ranked Chew and 4^th ranked Fahim in Round 6. The latter won the game and the championship with a perfect score. Chew was placed 2^nd, followed by Wong in 3^rd. Ahmad could not recovered from his Round 5 lost and lost again in Round 6 to 14^th ranked Rooshillen and be placed at the tail-end of the top 10 prize winners. Meanwhile, 3^rd ranked Cheah finished the event at 8^th after losing unexpectedly to 26^th ranked Beh Jia Sheng in Round 2 and only obtained a draw against 15^th ranked Lim Kai Xian in the last round.

Next, the Under-12 Category pre-tournament favourites were Puteri Rifqah (NR 1723), Loh Zu Hao (NR 1660), Ng Jen Sheng (NR 1614), Puteri Munajjah (NR 1589) and Jaron Tan (NR 1537). Puteri Rifqah championship campaign had suffered an early set back when she only able to get a draw in Round against Evan Loo (seeded 14^th) in Round 2 and lost the championship when she lost her last round against 3^rd ranked Ng Jen Sheng in the final round.

Loh championship campaign had failed to take-off when he lost to 26^th ranked Ryan Tey in Round 1 and only manage to a draw against 23^rd ranked Jane Wong in Round 3. While, Ng got to a flying start with 4 wins in-a-row before obtaining a draw in Round 5 against Puteri Munajjah. In the last round, Ng who has an inferior tie-break must win the encounter at all cost if he wants to win the title. While, Munajjah was placed 3^rd after drawing the last 3 rounds to score 4.5 points. Jaron who won the first 3 games just like Munajjah can only secure 2 draws in the last 3 rounds to be placed at 10^th position.

Here comes the Under-14 Category where we witnessed 3^rd ranked Subramanian Sivanesan from Negeri Sembilan was crowned as Champion after scoring 5 wins and 1 draw. While, top seed Mohd Faizal Roslan had managed to score 4 wins and 2 draws to be placed 2^nd and 4^th ranked Ethan Wong with 3 wins and 2 draws. In contrast, Dilwen Ding (seeded 2^nd) and Dawson Tan (seeded 5^th) can only secure 3 wins and a draw.

Lastly, the U-16 category saw pre-tournament hot favourite Muhd Irfan Haqqim Azhar from Selangor had secured the Championship easily with 4 wins and 2 draws against Jun Keat and Laila Husna from Kelantan. Jun Keat, who hails from Selangor, own campaign had suffered a huge blow when he lost unexpected to 15^th ranked Lee Kang Jing from Johor in Round 5. However, he still managed to finish the event as Silver medallist. While, the Bronze medal went to Laila. In addition, Fikri Saleh (2^nd ranked) and Vinton Wong (5^th ranked) had finished at 4^th and 8^th position respectively.

1st The Summit Juniors Open on 11 Nov @ Summit USJ [Update#4]

The total number of players who have made payment to the Organiser stands at 157pax. Another 4 players have their names reserved until Sunday 10am before their seats release to walk-in players. Anyone who wants to take part but yet to register yourself, please walk-in to the VENUE (same venue as the ongoing Popular Bookstore Warehouse Clearance) directly @ 10AM SHARP. The Organiser will allocate a total of 13 more seats (inclusive the 4 reserved names) to walk-in players. All walk-in players can register either in UNDER-12, UNDER-14 or UNDER-16 Category. Pairing for Round 1 will be generated @ 10.30AM on Sunday.
